Blue Cars Cake

My son was insistent that he have a blue car cake for his birthday. He's a huge fan of Cars, so I went off one of his cars he had in his collection. I had to do the logo on the hood because that's what's on the hood of the winning car. I originally put a 3 on the car because my mommy brain went back to last years cake with a 3 on it, plus this one has both the 3 and the 4 on it, so I got confused. Fortunately frosting can be erased easily and I was able to fix the number on it before the party.

Kare 11 tour cupcakes

I was lucky enough to have a tour of the Kare 11 studio thanks to winning a MomsLikeMe.com contest. Naturally I brought some treats for the staff at the studio.

I brought 40 cupcakes and hope it was enough for the 2 shifts that were there that day.

Here's a closeup of the NBC Peacock. It took more time to mix all the colors than it took to create the peacock.

I could only do the 11 from the Kare 11 logo on the cupcakes. There's only so much room on cupcakes.

Sunflowers

I was going to have a party and sunflowers were appropriate for the event. I found the way to make these on Wilton.com. Very easy, only 2 tips for the flowers. I made them completely out of buttercream icing instead of the royal icing they called for.

Oh Mario!

I had a request to make a Mario cake for someone's birthday and this is what I came up with. Since I grew up with the old school Mario, that's how I will always remember him. The characters are 3-d piped figures. I used fondant to create the green base.

I placed blocks on the sides for more of an impact.

A Winter Tree

I got a new pan after Christmas and had to try it out. Fortunately I don't have to make a Christmas Tree from it; I can simply make it into a snowy tree. I used brownie mix in it and made mint frosting to cover it. I used edible sparkles to make it look more snowy.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate the holiday! My husband wanted to bring something to the people he works with tomorrow. Cupcakes are always an easy way to feed many people cake without having to bring a knife.

Happy Birthday Princess

My daughter is turning 5 and asked for princess cupcakes. These are chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The skirts are the cupcakes and the bodies are made of frosting. The brown frosting was made by adding cocoa creating chocolate frosting. My daughter will love them because she usually just eats the frosting off the cake.

Well, I wasn't the winner, but it looks like I did well in the final judging from the placement of my cake picture in the runners up. I got a new pan and wanted to try it out. I also made a cream cheese frosting to use on it. Cream cheese frosting is very soft and doesn't work well for things you need firm frosting for such as roses. I am still working on the cream cheese frosting and haven't perfected it.

Turkeys are great for Thanksgiving, but why should you just have a turkey as the main dish? A turkey cake is great for dessert after the main meal. This turkey happens to be made out of spice cake.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I relocated last week to Elk River. Although things are still in boxes, I can still make cakes if you need one. Rope Borders

This is a simple anniversary cake. It has a rope border at the botttom, dots on the side and a shell border at the top. The person who wanted this one has flowers to put on top of it.

I am especially proud of how smooth I managed to get the top of this cake.

It was time to recreate the basket cake that I had to do during a class when I first took the cake decorating classes. This one has rosebuds and primroses on it done in royal icing.

For those of you that didn't think I'd be making 150 cupcakes for the picnic, here's proof that I make tons of cupcakes at a time.

I even did them in the MomsLikeMe.com colors for the occasion. It turned out to be 160 for the picnic and 22 for the family.

Anniversary Cake

Aah anniversary cakes. They look like Wedding cakes only smaller. They also look similar to the originals. This one has burgundy roses and white roses.

It also has a basketweave texture on the side. It is only a six inch cake.

This one is a tiered cake. Because it is all white, it needs to have texture to break up the monotone color. This is also a 6 inch cake with the top tier being 2 cupcakes on top.

I make my cakes from mixes. I do not use oil in my cakes, but substitute apple sauce in place of the oil.

I can make:
White
Chocolate, my recommended being Devil's Food
Red Velvet
Spice
Carrot

The frosting I make from scratch and is made with real butter. If you need completely white frosting I can make it with only shortening, but the flavor is better with the butter added.

My frosting flavors in white are:
Vanilla
Almond
Cherry

I also make chocolate frosting.

I am working on making a cream cheese frosting, but have not perfected it yet.

Here is Tigger carrying some presents for my little one.

This is a 3-d Thomas the Train I made for my daughter's second birthday. The front of the train is a 6 inch round cake on top of a rectangle bottom layer.

This is the 3-d car cake pan. I made it to look like a police car for a friend's daughter who works on the force.

Cakes need to be ordered at least 2 days prior. If you need something special done to the cake such as color flow pictures or royal icing flowers, order needs to be a week ahead of time. I will ask for a phone number that I can reach you at in case I have questions about your cake.

Delivery is free from Elk River to Anoka, Big Lake, Zimmerman and Rogers. Delivery past that is $5 up to 30 miles of delivery, and $5 for every 30 miles extra.

Class Cakes

This is one of the cakes I had to do for the Wilton class I took. It was practice for doing the frosting rose.

Here is a shamrock cake to practice the star fill-in that is used frequently on character cakes.

This cake combines several techniques. It has a basketweave on the sides, royal icing flowers, and color flow butterflies. Royal icing allows for make ahead flowers and the color flow allows for more 3-d effects.

This is the fondant present cake. It is first frosted with buttercream frosting, then covered with a layer of fondant, and finally decorated with fondant embellishments.
